Greater Elgin Family Care Center (GEFCC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization serving the medically uninsured, underinsured and publicly insured residents of Elgin and McHenry, Illinois, and surrounding communities.

Over 50.6 million Americans lack access to primary health care; in Illinois alone, 1,764,600¹ are without insurance, and in 2009, 1 in 8 adults avoided doctor visits because of cost². To ensure that the underserved get the health care they need, planning for Greater Elgin Family Care Center (GEFCC) began as a community-based grass-roots concern in 1996.

GEFCC provided over 75,000 medical and dental visits during Calendar Year 2011.

Due to the significant demand for our services and our mission to meet that need, GEFCC will accept a variety of tax-exempt donations including monetary contributions, services and equipment.

Since September 2002, the Center has been an established Federally Qualified Community Health Center. In this capacity, the Center receives operational support from the Department of Health and Human Services' Bureau of Primary Health Care.
