What is an ultrasound?

An ultrasound comes from a machine that creates an image of the inside of your body. It shows you your baby while it is inside of your uterus.

Ultrasounds can tell you, and your health care doctor, many things about your baby including:
  • how well the baby's heart works
  • the size of your baby
  • projected due date
  • how well other organs are growing

Why should I get an ultrasound?

An ultrasound can provide your doctor with critical information about your baby's growth and development. Typically, you would have your first ultrasound between 18 and 22 weeks. Later in the pregnancy, however, or if you are having a difficult pregnancy, you may have additional ultrasounds.

Ultrasounds are available at our Seneca Health Center, Streamwood Community Health Center and Creekside Health Center locations. Call today for an appointment or schedule an appointment at when you have a prenatal care visit.
