The grand opening of Greater Elgin Family Care Center’s newest Health Center, Center for Family Health, was held on Wednesday, January 29th, 2014.
The new Health Center is located at 165 E. Plank Road in Sycamore, just east of the Casey’s General Store, which is on the northeast corner of Route 23 and Plank Road.
The open house welcomed local community members and leaders including Illinois State Representative Bob Prichard, Mayor John Rey (DeKalb) and Mayor Ken Mundy (Sycamore). Guests were invited to meet the medical providers and staff, take a tour of the Health Center and enjoy treats and door prizes.
“We are thrilled to have opened our 7th full-time (Health Center) location,” said Bob Tanner, President/CEO of Greater Elgin Family Care Center. “Center for Family Health will create additional access to quality, affordable primary health care for the area’s uninsured, publicly insured and underinsured residents, all regardless of the ability to pay. We received countless support from the community upon planning and opening this Health Center – especially KishHealth System, State Representative Bob Prichard and the Cities of Sycamore and DeKalb – for which we are extremely grateful.”
Center for Family Health , was temporarily closed by KishHealth System on December 4, 2013. It was re-opened on December 18, 2013 and continues to provide comprehensive pediatric and family medicine care, focusing on area publicly insured, uninsured and underinsured residents. Appointments for care can be made by calling 815.363.9900.
A second location, also formerly operated by KishHealth at the DeKalb County Health Department’s building at 2550 N. Annie Glidden Road, opened for care on January 2, 2014.
Greater Elgin Family Care Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center, received federal funding from the Bureau of Primary Health Care to support the operation of both locations. The funding has allowed for the transfer of both locations from KishHealth System to Greater Elgin Family Care Center (GEFCC).
Center for Family Health – Sycamore will be open 6 days a week, beginning at 8:00 am each day, with evening appointments Monday – Thursday until 7:30 pm. Patients can also walk-in for care at either location and same-day appointments are available for existing patients.
Center for Family Health is a program of Greater Elgin Family Care Center. GEFCC is a Federally Qualified Health Center which, in Calendar Year 2014, provided the full range of quality, affordably-priced primary care services to almost 34,000 different persons via over 111,000 medical and dental appointments.
